Quests Joru takes part in across Gothic 1 Remake.
Joru can be found in the Swamp Camp (Novice).
You: Where do I find scrolls with Sleeper magic?
Joru: Well, Baal Cadar sells them, but that won't do you much good, considering he doesn't talk to you.
Joru: Maybe one of the other gurus can help you? I don't know, man. Look around.
You: What's your job around here?
Joru: Me? I'm a novice. An "accomplished novice," to be precise.
Joru: That's why I'm here, teaching the wisdom of the Sleeper, rather than out there mashing herbs or cleaning huts.
Joru: Master Y'Berion even said I might become a proper baal one day, can you believe it? A guru.
Joru: Oh, we'll see. I've been slacking a bit lately, but that's fine. There's still time, and for now, I'm happy where I am.
Joru: Spreading the Sleeper's word is a great honor.
You: I helped you out. Your turn now: how do I impress the gurus?
Joru: That depends on the guru. Baal Cadar, for example, teaches the novices the magic of the Sleeper.
Joru: If you want his attention, try and use a magic scroll in his vicinity.
Joru: Not a Windfist, of course - try putting one of his students to sleep or something, you get the idea.
Joru: Baal Namib, the one by the entrance, is a tough nut. I think Lester might be able to help you out here - just ask him when the old man is not around.
Joru: The other gurus aren't as hard to impress ... just make yourself useful, and make sure they notice.
You: All right. Thanks for the tips.
Joru: Sure thing - you scratch my back, I scratch yours.
You: I'm to win the favor of the baals. Do you have any tips?
Joru: Oh, so you're looking to join us? That's nice. Let's see ... hmm, yeah, I might be able to help you.
Joru: I'm still a novice, but I know these people better than most.
Joru: That said, I want you to do me a favor first. Have you been to Fortuno yet?
Joru: Then you already got your daily ration? Give it to me, and we have deal.
You: I'll think about it.
Joru: I guess you could call him the quartermaster - he gives out our daily smoke rolls.
You: I'll think about it.
You: Here are some smoke rolls for you.
Joru: Good choice. All right, here we go: I'm sure you already noticed almost none of the gurus are willing to talk to you, which makes it hard to impress them.
Joru: There are ways to work around that, but they are different for each of them. I can give you some tips.
Joru: Wait, what's that? I want three rolls of black sage, that was the deal. Bring me the herbs, and you get your advice.
You: So? Has the Sleeper spoken to you yet?
Joru: Not yet. But Kalom only ever gives us a few rolls.
Joru: Only the gurus get enough swampweed to truly elevate themselves into the spiritual realm.
Joru: But I don't mind ... someday, I'll be a guru, and then I'll finally get enough to witness our master in all his glory.
Joru: Someday ...
You: You guys seem to be enjoying yourself.
Joru: Ha! You mean the smoking? That's not leisure, that's our duty: We test out the new strains Master Kalom grows in his laboratory.
Joru: Every other day, his apprentice, Caine, delivers us a new batch to try out. We oblige.
Joru: Actually, it is. The swampweed does much more than take the edge off. If you smoke it right, it opens your mind, and that can be as exhilirating as it can be taxing.
