Casting Shadows

To get to join the Old Camp, I need to gain the respect of some influential people, especially those in the Outer Ring. They're all about reputation here - and I'm still a blank slate.

Joining the Old Camp comes down to your standing with the Shadows of the Outer Ring, and as a fresh arrival you have none. You will need several influential Shadows to vouch for you before Diego will arrange your audience with Gomez.

  1. 1Speak with Diego in the Old Camp after Thorus has explained what it takes to work for Gomez. Diego sends you out to win the favor of the Shadows.
  2. 2Earn Whistler's support by buying the sword he wants from Fisk and bringing it to him. He sits near the houses below the market, past the well.
  3. 3Get Fingers to back you by following The Cult's Recipe and A Ring for Fingers: Fingers waits near the arena left of the castle gate and wants Scatty's ring, which you lift from Scatty's locked chest.
  4. 4Impress Scatty (an unmarked task) by finding him around the arena and defeating one of the fighters, Kirgo or Kharim, in a duel, then reporting back to him.
  5. 5Recover the missing warder Nek for Sly to earn his approval (the Vanished Warder task), and steal the Dreamjuice recipe from Cor Kalom's chest in the Swamp Camp for Dexter.
  6. 6Handle the New Camp thief Mordrag for Thorus during Out of Sight, then hire Sharky as Fisk's new fence in the New Camp once that is done.
  7. 7Once enough Shadows are vouching for you, return to Diego and ask about your reputation. If he says you have done enough, he advances you toward the Test of Faith and your meeting with Gomez.

  • Defeat Kirgo+80 XP for the kill, +150 XP reporting to Scatty; Scatty logged as "Impressed" (total 230)
  • Defeat Kharim+140 XP for the kill, +200 XP reporting to Scatty; Scatty logged as "Very Impressed" (total 340)
Tips
  • A New Fence for Fisk needs Out of Sight done first; all other approval quests can be done in any order.
  • Casting Shadows itself gives no direct XP - the XP comes from the approval side quests it gates.
