Availability & Requirements

His warder (two-handed master) training is gated behind formally joining the warders: you ask "I want to be a warder" and "Can you teach me to be a master at two-handed combat?", but he only advances you after the warder trial of overseeing a delivery at the Exchange Zone.

Old Camp, main tower / Gomez's gate — Chapter 1: Gomez's right hand and the gatekeeper to the inner camp; he is who you ask about becoming a warder.

You: I want to be a warder.

Thorus: Good! Few things up front though. I say this to every recruit, and I'll only say it once, so listen up.

Thorus: Until now, you tried to make it on your own. That's in the past now - me lads stick together. Us warders, we protect the ore barons, the ore, the Camp, and the Mine.

Thorus: The diggers dig up the nuggets, but we make sure the crawlers don't eat them. The barons bargain with the king, but we cover their asses while they do it.

Thorus: Day and night, we're in the Mine. Day and night, we're at the camp gates and make sure folk can sleep without worrying about someone slitting their throat.

Thorus: When this Colony started, we were all free game, but we proved ourselves. What I'm saying is, we worked damn hard for this life.

Thorus: And that's why I demand one thing from me lads more than anything else: that they stick together. 'Cause that's the only way we can keep this mess together.

Thorus: The only way we can survive.

Thorus: As for the rest, you'll figure that out on the way. Just stay alert and lend a hand when there's danger or some task needs doing.

Thorus: Now, enough with the chatter: go pick up your armor and sword from Stone.

Thorus: You'll find him in the Inner Ring, inside the smithy.

You: You said there's something you wanted to talk about?

Thorus: That's right. What you did in the mine proved you not only got the guts, but also the strength and skills we're looking for in this camp.

Thorus: Long story short. I'm offering to make you one of us: a warder.

Thorus: You still need a little more experience, but not much. Come back to me when you've got it, and we can have a serious chat.

Thorus: What you'd say?

Thorus: Oh. And one more thing.

Thorus: Welcome to the warders.

You: Can you train me?

Thorus: Depends on what you're looking to learn. I can show you how to get stronger and more dexterous.

You: I'm more interested in becoming a mage.

Thorus: (laughs) You say that as if it's as simple as becoming a digger.

You: Can you teach me to be a master at two-handed combat?

Thorus: Hm. Yeah. I think you're ready. First off, change your position. Hold the sword upright, both hands on the grip. And keep it close to your body.

Thorus: Controlling your body is one half of it - controlling your mind is the other.

Thorus: That does wonders to keep your opponent at a distance.

Thorus: Also, don't just hack your opponents like you're chopping wood. Go for the weak spots, and you might land a heavy hit that will do much more damage than a regular one.

Thorus: Once it connects, spin around for a devastating, well hit strike.

Thorus: Alternating attacks and proper positioning. Those are the keys to victory.
